INTRODUCTION

 What is Industrial Training?

The industrial training exposes the students to professional skills and experiences in industrial technical practices. In preparing the students for the real working environment, industrial training helps to produce quality graduates with technical and soft skills competency.

Industrial training is offered in the sixth semester. The students are attached for 20 weeks of training in various industries in Malaysia. Students earn some credit hours after the completion of industrial training. A grade of Pass or Fail is given after the presentation and submission of the industrial training report.

Significance of Internship

Students planning to enter the permanent workforce should complement their academic preparations with a range of other experiences such as undergraduate researches and internships. An internship is significant to students(intern), the firm and the polytechnic.

First, this internship offered the intern the chance to learn by doing in a setting where he is supervised by a work-place professional, and have the opportunity to achieve his own learning goals, without the responsibilities of being a permanent employee as well as also offering the intern an opportunity to work with a person who can become a mentor for you - not only in the internship but in a career aspect. Furthermore, this internship was significant in the aspects of career exploration in terms of learning about a career field from the inside and decide if this is the right career field for the intern, working alongside a professional in the chosen career area or field, and observing the workplace to see if it matches expectations.

➤ Significant of Internship to Firm :

For the company or firm, student interns provide key benefits, including the provision of having a year-round source of highly motivated pre-professionals to the organization to assist with special events and short-term projects, offer possible fresh ideas and new perspectives and can be a cost-effective solution for short-term projects. Further, the internship program allows Tokio Marine Life Insurance to utilize a cost-effect way to fill short-term needs, especially during low staffing periods. Interns can help when the need arises for a special project or when the insurance Limbe needs temporary assistance due to staffing shortages

First, it enables the Polytechnic to really know whether the students do master what is taught in class. Secondly, internship programs help the Polytechnic to also recommend other upcoming students to that institution, while at the same time maintaining a good relationship with the firm. Furthermore, it serves as a source of employment after graduating from the Polytechnic, the intern might get recruited by the institution that they did their internship with. Internship helps in retention after graduation. To add, Internship programs strengthen the student's ties with the Polytechnic when the experience is facilitated by the department. Moreover, the internship provides an opportunity for the Polytechnic to relate academic training to job requirements.
